I think that it has been established through several previous posts…that I am a friggen nerd.  And, before the days of my sexy sassy eReader (team Nook!), you could find me often in the “Virgins Who Live In Momma’s Basement” section of Borders (RIP) ie the Fantasy/Fiction.

I may have mentioned a couple of times before my love of Vampires in particular the Charlaine Harris books that spawned my Sunday obsession True Blood.

Perhaps you don’t  understand what keeps this Witch glued to her TV screen religiously on Sunday nights.  Allow me to introduce the finest mickeyfickey werewolf this side of Bontemps, Louisiana.

Joe Manganiello as Alcide Hevreaux….make the ladies say HEAUX!

Read all about him Here and Here… I’m just gonna objectify him some more…sigh. Seriously, nerds are crazy pervs.

No really...GOOD GAWD!

Brew Quotes: Lauryn Hill Wants You To Know

10

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in Brew Quotes, lauryn hill, Rohan Marley | Posted on 27-07-2011

Lauryn Hill is speaking out about all the recent gossip regarding the paternity of her sixth child born over the weekend. Rohan Marley’s tweets and comments of late have led many to believe he is not the father of baby #6 (a boy). Well, Lauryn’s statement (via Twitter) seems to kinda sorta in a roundabout way confirm this is “her” son but not “theirs” without flat out saying it…

“Mr. Marley and I have a long and complex history about which MANY inaccuracies have been reported since the beginning. To speculate without the facts can only cause people to form WRONG conclusions. We both value privacy and for that reason defend and preserve our right to it. Contrary to numerous reports, Mr. Marley did not abandon me while pregnant with his child. We have had long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us. Thank you for you concern and I appreciate all the well wishes regarding the birth of my new son.”

And there you have it. Basically, stay up out her bidness…

Brew Finds: ‘Nookin’ Pa Nub……

30

Posted by Piper from the Brew | Posted in brew finds | Posted on 26-07-2011

….. And I found it! I am soooo deliciously in love with my Nook! I never knew I could love a piece of electronic equipment this much. When I got my first ipod I thought nothing could top how it made me feel inside, then I got the Ipod touch and again decided nothing could make my insides feel warmer but I stand corrected! See I am a ferocious reader, I can finish a good book in a day, reading at home, at work (yeah I know), in my car in moving traffic, on the terlit, during sessy times…… I mean I go hard for a good book so I have no idea what took me so long to hop on board the e-reader train. I guess I was one of the people who said things like “but it’s just not the same” or “ nah I’m good, I need to feel a real book in my hands”….. man bump that pre-historic chit!

I don’t have a boyfriend but I have a nook! and as soon as I figure out how to hump this thing I won’t even need a boo…… BAM!

Lauryn Hill Pops, Rohan Marley Tweets

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in lauryn hill, Rohan Marley, Twitter, Twittervention | Posted on 25-07-2011

Lauryn Hill birthed baby number 6 on Saturday. BlackCelebKids.com reports the baby was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, but mother and child are doing just fine. Funny enough, Rohan Marley –the daddy of Lauryn’s brood– has been real greasy on Twitter lately, “sorta” claiming he’s not the daddy, then backtracking, then being claimed as the new boo of a Brazilian model, then backtracking on that, too. Now, he’s “forwarding” all the well wishes he’s receiving on the birth of his somebody’s Lauryn’s son.

I’m forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son. I’m sure she’ll appreciate the love being sent to her RASTAFARI R.M.less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® Favorite Retweet Reply

Something is real fishy ‘round these parts…

Brew Music News: Jay-Z & Kanye Hit The Road

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in brew music news, Jay-Z, Kanye West | Posted on 25-07-2011

With their “Watch The Throne” project dropping next month, King Carter and The Supreme White Girl Interrupter Kanye West are going on tour. The “Watch The Throne Tour” is scheduled for 24 dates so far. It kicks off in Detroit in September. Oddly though, there aren’t any NYC dates. I thought surely these two would be all up in the Garden.

• 9/22/11 Detroit, MI Palace of Auburn Hills
• 9/24/11 Toronto, ON Air Canada Centre
• 9/25/11 Montreal, QC Bell Centre
• 9/27/11 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center
• 9/28/11 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center
• 9/29/11 Washington DC Verizon Center
• 10/4/11 Philadelphia, PA Wells Fargo Center
• 10/6/11 Chicago, IL United Center
• 10/7/11 Chicago, IL United Center
• 10/8/11 Minneapolis, MN Target Center
• 10/10/11 Denver, CO Pepsi Center
• 10/13/11 Tacoma, WA Tacoma Dome
• 10/14/11 Vancouver, BC Rogers Arena
• 10/16/11 San Jose, CA HP Pavilion
• 10/17/11 Sacramento, CA Power Balance Pavilion
• 10/19/11 Los Angeles, CA Staples Center

• 10/30/11 Greensboro, NC Greensboro Coliseum
• 11/1/11 Baltimore, MD 1st Mariner Arena
• 11/3/11 Boston, MA TD Garden

Tickets for the shows go on sale August 8th, the same day as the album. I sure hope this combined tour goes better than Jay-Z’s other attempt at touring with a big time artist.

BTW, if you haven’t heard it yet, here’s the first single off the “Watch The Throne” album, “Otis.”

Breaking Brew: Amy Winehouse Dead

4

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in amy winehouse, breaking brew, Brew News, rip | Posted on 23-07-2011

A Witch is knee-deep in her feelings right now. British singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment in London today. The police report does not specifically name Winehouse but says:

Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.

We all know Winehouse battled years of addiction and had been in rehab several times for cocaine withdrawal symptoms among other things.

She embarked on a European tour this summer but was forced to cancel it after horrible reviews and seeming “out of it” on stage. Photos surfaced recently showing her in better condition but, alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Her death probably isn’t a surprise to many but it’s still sad, nonetheless. Her “Frank” and “Black To Back” albums were the soundtracks to my life when I was going through love woes or just needed to dance around the house. I’m sad that we’ll never really know her full potential. She now rests with other music greats who fell victim to the lifestyle, cutting short their musical legacies.

Brew Commentary: Shove Your “Check Ins”, Momma’s Juice & Other Deep Thoughts

2

Posted by Elphaba Of The Brew | Posted in brew commentary, Brew Confessions, Brewpoint | Posted on 21-07-2011

Look it’s hot. Like Magma hot, and I’m having trouble concentrating on ONE linear thought…so I’ll just kick it Acapulco straight from the dome.

  • So, I’m hanging out with some friends as one is likely to do in the Summa Summa Summa Tiiiime… and these heffas  straight up are Facebook/Four Square check in crazed.  Seriously? You really NEED all the dudes you gave  ” A Nice Old Fashioned” to in the ’90′s to know that you have just arrived at your favorite Rib and Donut spot: “Saucy Holes”… for the 4th time this week?  Or that you have finally arrived at that long over due appointment at the “Smooth Clam Day Spa” to get your chocha waxed?  Look, you can do what you want…just stop taking me down with you! It doesn’t matter if I disable my check in, if in your damn status you link me and say ‘ Elphie and I are enjoying a nice steaming hot cup of gizzard grease and after that we’ll be stopping by to get her rash checked out.’  Can’t our private time with getting into nonsense and tomfoolery, be you know… PRIVATE? Consider it…do it for the children. A Witch got warrants, son!
  • I’m totally pissed about all these TV and Movie remakes:  The Smurphs, Charlie’s Angels, Dallas, and now motherforkin’ 21 Jump Street? Really? If Johnny Depp is not smoldering as a cop who looks like an old ass teen, this is positively WORTHLESS!  All this Hollywood laziness and we Witches’ don’t even have our own Telenovela yet? I call Bulljivington, Sir!! Team  Telemundo, bishes!
  • Summer concerts, there is literally everything  for this Witches’  wide musical taste this summer. I don’t know what to do with myself! I’m UBER EXCITED to see Miss Jill Scott and her horny/hungry ass in concert again.  She’s a Girl Crush to the extreme!  When she opened for Maxwell, I wanted her to stay on an extra hour and just sing over and over again: Griiiiiiitsssss.   Check her out:  Jill Scott’s Block Party dates.
  •   Afro Punk Festival is going to be MEGA EFFING AMAZEBALLS in BK! (among others) Res, Santigold, Janelle Monet AND THE MOTHEREFFING FISHBONE!?  Fishbone,  is totally Cali/ska-rock’s Chuck Berry:   a big ass reason the Red Hot Chili Peppers and No Doubt achieved mainstream success! WHY THE BLACK MAN ALWAYS GOTTA BE THE UNSUNG HERO, SON!?! /end Militant moment.
  • Hippity Hop: For the thug in me…Rock The Bells is only going to be in a few cities this year, guess they couldn’t risk putting Miss Lauryn Hill on the road?  Boo and hiss.. BUT Nas is performing “Illmatic”, whut! Oh and Erykah Badu will be there doing “Baduism” and  looking for a new baby daddy too… yea, it’s funny cause it’s true.  Now I’ve gotta figure out how I’m getting all this time off from work.
Aiight, Witch Out, it’s time for a lil’ Mama’s juice and a shower.  What is “Mama’s juice you ask?”  Well some people call em Coco Losos, some people call it straight up, Ciroc Coconut.  But when I’m swigging from the bottle that lives in my freezer, after a long day of work, in my big Witch bloomers and nothing else… I call it Mama Juice! “Mama needs her juice now, you go on outside and play you little fuckers!!” I scream to my imaginary children. Then,  Mama’s Juice calms me right on down.

WTF? Files: Summer’s Eve “Talking” Vaginas

21

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in Brew Tube, vagicat, vagina, What's your call?, WTF? Files | Posted on 20-07-2011

Any time a commercial has a sista girl rolling her neck or spittin’ slave talk to sell chicken or fried shrimp, the army of black women mounts up and rings the alarm. Here’s another commercial adding fuel to the “oh no they didn’t” fire. Summer’s Eve is running a new “Hail To The V” ad campaign that praises the sunshiny goodness of a clean, perfumed and Handi Wiped vagina before you “hit ‘da club” (because your good, soapy scrubbin’ with water isn’t enough…yes, your non-Summer’s Eved vag is inferior). In the ad called “Lady Wowza,” the “talking vagina” is clearly black and critics say the manner in which the vagicat is “speaking” mixes stereotypes in a sexist and tasteless way.

You be the judge. Is this a tacky commercial or not?

The ads have set off a firestorm across feminist and other women-focused blogs. Oh, but the vaginas aren’t only black. These vaginas are equal opportunity.

WTF? Files: Breastfeeding Baby Doll

13

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in What's your call?, WTF? Files | Posted on 18-07-2011

As if little girls don’t have enough pressure to grow up too soon with push-up bikini tops, kiddie thongs and pre-teen makeup on the market, there’s a new doll coming to U.S. stores called the “Breast Milk Baby.” The doll comes with a magnetic halter top that “connects” with the baby’s mouth and teaches the little girl how to breast feed. “Breast Milk Baby” is all the rage in Spain where it sells (online) for 90 bucks. Supporters say the doll will help girls learn about nurturing and motherhood and may lessen the stigma some people have about nursing. But, critics say it sexualizes the girls and may increase teen pregnancies. You decide…

Brewchies at the Movies: “Beats, Rhymes & Life…”

3

Posted by Fleur Delacour | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 18-07-2011

So everyone who knows me knows that I love hip-hop, to say the least. I don’t mean this new ignant hook over beats ish, I’m talking about ANTE-UP-SCENARIO-SUPERTHUG-ONE MORE CHANCE type business. The winter white bomber wearing, hanging with your girls with some big ass earring on the Ave joints. I rarely listen to the radio anymore because I want to stab my eye out with a sharp pencil sometimes. Needless to say I was super excited about the new ATCQ documentary by Michael Rapaport (@rapaportmichael), “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest“. Now I’m no Dream Hamptom but here’s my honest analysis of the movie. It was good!!! It starts at the end so to speak, beef between Q-Tip, Ali and Phife Dawg ended their 10 yr + run, the crew is barely speaking, well really it’s Phife and John/Q-Tip/Kamal not feeling the love and Ali Shaheed Muhammed caught in the middle. (BTW – Jesus be a set of braces because ASM is fione!!!! – Yum) Then it goes back to the beginning and how the group forms with all members including a well-spoken and impressive Jarobi recounting their mega-career and at the end, mega-beef with one disturbing exchange between Q-Tip and Phife caught on tape. To be honest, it was hard to watch the inside bickering, @iamthephifer’s failing health and his life-controlling sugar addiction. I could tell that Michael Rapaport respects the art tremendously. And hey, I always can rock with a cool white boy even though I keep seeing him as crazy ass Remy from Higher Learning, lol! I didn’t feel like it painted any member in a negative light as @Qtiptheabstract later claimed. I see both sides to the Phife/Tip beef. I also forgot how great of a music producer Q-Tip really is! I love the cameos, especially Busta Rhymes talking about how one ATCQ song makes him cry. The movie also exposed a true bond between all four members that brought Jarobi to tears at one point. I don’t want to give everything away but “Beats, Rhymes & Life” is definitely a melancholy walk back down memory lane. A fun ride that we should all support. Let’s just hope Cash Money Brothers does not try this at home! Remember: A, E, I, O, U and sometimes mf’in Y!!!
