From the mind of Fleur Delacour | Posted in brew fashion, fashion week | Posted on 09-12-2011
It’s the time of year fashionistas live for and the reason models eat air sammiches; New York Fashion Week! The loyal and very fashionable Brewchie Kristy Jones was front row to catch the glitz and glamour for The Brew.
Mataano & Korto Momolu “Remember” event at the Samsung Experience on Sunday, September 11th at the Time Warner Center. It was an amazing eye feast of the who’s who in urban high fashion from Essence magazine editors to America’s Next Top Model judges. Two fashion shows back to back with all of the excitement of a doubleheader.
First up- bold and bright! If you haven’t heard of Mataano- it’s time to look up these bad ass Somali twins (Ayaan & Idyl Mohallim). Matanno’s spring/summer collection consists of contemporary silhouettes, tropical prints and vibrant colors. Inspired by the 60′s & 70′s, the twins said,” We loved our visit to the island of St. Lucia. Everything was colorful and lush, this collection reflects that essence.”
The second show was Korto Momolu (@kortomomolu) of Project Runway fame. Remember her? She almost won it all. By the looks of her fab collection she’s not crying over spilled milk. Her roots are in Liberia, Africa but this collection explores the artistry of Japan and the Samurai culture. Korto said, “My woman this season is sophisticated, chic and a woman of heightened everyday elegance.”
Thanks Kristy! (on the right, isn’t she fab?)
