Brew Quotes: Eddie Murphy On Quitting The Oscars

From the mind of Witch Hazel | Posted in Brew Quotes, eddie murphy | Posted on 11-09-2011

Eddie Murphy decided to bow out of his Oscar hosting gig after producer and friend Brett Ratner resigned. Ratner was forced out after making a homophobic slur during an interview and then going on Howard Stern’s show and discussing intimate details of his sex life. Famed Hollywood producer Brian Grazer will take Ratner’s spot. Ratner, who directed Murphy in “Tower Heist,” had been working with Eddie on skits for the show. Eddie felt transitioning to a new producer would prove too difficult, so he quit. Must be nice to actually be able to turn down work.

Here’s what he said about quitting the show:

“First and foremost, I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony,” Murphy said in a statement. “I was truly looking forward to being part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

Methinks this is a bad career move. This guy needs a hit…badly. Sure, he’s rich but you still need a hit every now and then.

So, who do you think should host the Academy Awards? I vote The Notorious N.P.H.!!!
