From the mind of Witch Hazel | Posted in R&B Divas, TV One, will you watch | Posted on 02-12-2013
The first season of R&B Divas was so successful that TV One decided a spinoff was in order, so they went and found six more sistas of a certain age, with voices who can’t get radio airplay because they don’t yodel in crop tops. The cast of the new R&B Divas: LA was announced today and it includes Kelly Price, Chanté Moore, Lil’ Mo, Claudette Ortiz, Michel’le and Dawn Robinson. The show starts production this month in LA and premieres later this year.
According to TV One’s press release:
Over eight episodes, viewers and fans will follow these multitalented ladies as they seek to individually and collectively re-establish themselves in the pop culture limelight with new deals, new drama and new directions for their careers and their lives. Success is the only option for these six friends – but is there room at the top for them all?
Basically a wash, rinse, repeat of the main show with less humidity.
Kelly Price’s storyline will focus on her music industry struggles, her marriage to her husbandger and their three kids.
Recently divorced Chanté Moore will soon take to Broadway for the musical “Gospel Soul Rock ‘n’ Roll” and she’ll be plugging her album, due out later this year.
Lil’ Mo (government name: Cynthia Loving) is trying to get back into music after taking time off to focus on her marriage and four children.
Claudette Ortiz, of City High fame, is now a single mother (after divorcing bandmate Ryan Toby) who’s trying to revive her career. Sidebar: if you haven’t seen the Intervention with her former lover/other bandmate Robby Pardlo, get you some. Methinks this might be the “messy” one, just based on the “history” here. Just a hunch.
Squeaky-voiced singer Michel’le (Toussaint) hasn’t really had a hit since the ’90s but she’s been busy raising children by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight. She’s trying to get back on the forefront of the music scene, writing a book and finding a man (which has got to be tough with Suge as your ex-husband)! This could get messy too.
On again, off again, on again En Vogue member Dawn Robinson rounds out the cast. She’s divorced too and is working on a book and a new girl group called GLAMM.
So, will ya watch?
