Uttering Method Man and Waka Flocka Flame in the same sentence seems like a sacrilege that I should be going to church to repent. But apparently there was some mini-issue between Meth and the “O Let’s Do It” rapper.

Here’s the backstory: Waka reportedly made some comment about intricate lyrics not being needed in today’s rap climate. So, during an interview on Shade 45’s All Out Show, Meth was asked about it and he made a comment about today’s rappers not having enough meat to their lyrics.

“He has the right to his opinion. But the people that are in the know and know what time it is, know that if you ain’t saying s**tout your mouth, your time is very slim in this motherfucking game, b.”

Then, Waka followed up –but kinda kept it classy– saying he looks up to Meth and didn’t expect any disrespect from him. (Sorry, there are no subtitles)

Ok, so you following? So then, Meth goes back on the All Out Show to clear everything up, saying his whole point about lyrics was taken out of context and he was not singling out this Waka kid.

Ok, so I get the point of not wanting to point a finger at one particular rapper, but c’mon, let’s be real here. Did Method Man really need to apologize for anything here? I mean, he’s right. Aren’t today’s mainstream lyrics waaaaay too thin to ever be considered classic? Think about it, will you be bumping “O Let’s Do It” (if you’re even bumping it at all!) in 10 years the way you still nod your head to “I’ll Be There For You (You’re All I Need To Get By)?” Methinks not…
