SMH at ‘your South African cousins’! Word on curb is that the sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s funeral was fugazai, son! Experts say, the unidentified man was not making any sense and his interpretations did not match English signing, nor any of South Africa’s 11 official languages. Now that I reflect, dude looked like he was giving baseball calls with all that furious fingering! Ole Jazz Hands was standing alongside dozens of world leaders throwing up gang signs, “Pretoria, what? what?!” So for this mess he’s definitely sitting on those lying ass hands in our Cornball Corner!

Don’t believe me? Just watch!

Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela

I know. I had you at IDRIS.ELBA didn’t I?

The slick trailer for Idris Elba’s upcoming film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom was released yesterday, in honor of Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday. And it is looks gooood (maybe I’m biased). The film doesn’t go the give peace a chance route. It shows Mandela as multi-dimensional: a revolutionary, a flirt and –as the film’s distributor (The Weinstein Co., BTW) calls it– a “kick ass Mandela.”

Take a look.

He nails that accent!

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is scheduled for a November release, just in time for Oscar season. Will you go see this?

Brew News: Mandela’s Great-Granddaughter Dies in Car Crash

Nelson Mandela and great-granddaughter Zenani

Sad news on the opening day of the World Cup in South Africa.

Nelson Mandela’s 13-year-old great-granddaughter Zenani was killed in a car crash early this morning as she was returning home from Thursday night’s kick-off concert.

Police say Zenani died in a one-car accident on a Johannesburg highway. The man behind the wheel, was accused of drunk driving and may also be charged with culpable homicide.

This is the first time the World Cup is being played in Africa and the former president’s appearance at the opening today was to be a high point for the country. But, naturally, Mandela canceled his appearance at the World Cup today to be with his mourning family.

Our prayers are with them.
