First, “slave jewelry” was hot in Italian Vogue. Then, Rihanna was dubbed de n*ggab*tch by a Dutch fashion magazine. Now, French Elle has attempted to deliver a compliment to the Obamas, while throwing shade at the sartorial selections of the entire black community. Yes, you. And you too. In an article called “Black Fashion Power,” Nathalie Dolivo suggests black people are dressing well and paying attention to fashion, thanks to the well-dressed Obamas.

Dutch Magazine Takes Back Its Rihanna “Apology”

Another day, another turn in the Jackie Magazine saga. The Dutch fashion magazine took some shots this week from Rihanna fans (and, generally common sense-having people) who were outraged at the blatant racism of its article that called Rihanna the “ultimate n*ggab*tch” with a “ghetto ass.”

Dutch Magazine Called Rihanna What??? [Racism Alert]

Dutch fashion magazine, “Jackie,” thought it was giving its readers a tongue-in-cheek guide on how to dress like Rihanna. Apparently though, the magazine’s editors must not know any black people, have any on the staff (including in the mail room) and don’t have access to these here innawebs to Google before they publish (or perhaps they couldn’t care less to poll any black people… I’m going with the latter). In it’s attempt to be “funny,” the magazine called Rihanna… wait for it…

Brew Bits: Walmart Racist Busted

1

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in brew bits, Racism, walmart | Posted on 20-03-2010

New Jersey police have arrested a man in connection with Sunday’s “all blacks” leave the store announcement at the Turnersville, NJ store.  So far, cops are being tight-lipped, only saying the unidentified man is from Atlantic County, NJ and was arrested Friday.

Walmart is reportedly working to limit access to the public address feature on their in-store telephones. I guess anybody can just pick up a phone up in there and start making announcements, huh?

More details about the arrest are expected to be released at a press conference today.

UPDATE: Turns out, the alleged culprit is a 16 year old boy. *smh*

Somebody At This Walmart Is Not Feeling The Coloreds

Walmart is investigating an incident at a store in Washington Township, NJ after someone got on the PA system and ordered black people to leave the store.

It happened Sunday night in the southern New Jersey Walmart. A male voice got on the overhead address system and “calmly” announced: “Attention Walmart customers: All black people leave the store now.”

A manager jumped on the line and apologized for the announcement. It’s not clear just who made the announcement, a worker or a customer.  The corporate office calls the remark “unacceptable” and they’re looking into how it happened. Walmart has had a history of controversy when it comes to worker pay, women’s rights and some racist incidents, but the NAACP says the store is making strides in diversity.

I don’t know if I’m more shocked at the blatant racism or that people still shop at Walmart. #TeamTarget

Brew Bits: Racist Easter Eggs

1

A few wayward Easter eggs showed some Michigan kids just how disrespectful some people can be. Sunday, a few Black families in Auburn Hills, MI found plastic eggs stuffed with racist notes in their yards. The eggs had “N” word notes and references to the Aryan Nation inside them. One kid who opened one of the eggs thought they really came from the Easter bunny. Police are investigating the incident.

Sullying the name of Easter? White Jesus does not approve of this behavior!

Blatant Racism In Cleveland? You Decide…

A Black paper in Cleveland published this cartoon portraying State Senator Nina Turner as Aunt Jemima.  The Call & Post cartoon was featured with an editorial criticizing Turner for being the only Black leader to support the overhaul of county government.  Some in the Black community believe that overhaul will reduce their political power.  The newspaper says the editorial caricature is not harmful (or racist)… what’s your call?  Can a Black newspaper be racist too?

KKK Rally? Is this 1920?

0

The KKK are rallying before the football game at Ole Miss today to protest the school chancellor’s decision to keep the band from playing “From Dixie With Love.” Today’s game will be the first time in 20 years fans won’t hear the medley which includes the Confederate fight song and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Historically, at the end of the tunes, fans shout “the South will rise again.”

The University of Mississippi’s chancellor is unhappy about that chant (duuh!). He says some who like the songs appear to want “a revival of segregation.”

The KKK called the ban “an attack on our Southern heritage and culture.”

Oh boy.  And we got a Black President?  Geez.

It’s 2010 not 1864.
