This story gives me a case of the sads…

The Chicago Sun Times reports:

For the third time in four years, the Denver Broncos are dealing with the death of a teammate. Wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home Monday in an apparent suicide. Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley’s home in Centennial at 3:35 p.m. local time and found McKinley’s body in the second-floor master bedroom. He said detectives believe McKinley, 23, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

McKinley had been on injured reserve with a hurt knee. It was his second stint on IR in eight months. McKinley’s death marks the latest in a series of deaths for the Broncos. Cornerback Darrent Williams died in a drive-by shooting in 2007. Backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game just months after Williams’ killing.

This is also the second time in recent weeks that an African American star has been linked with suicide. First, Fantasia’s failed attempt and now McKinley’s alleged suicide. When will our community place a higher value mental health awareness? How many people have to perish before we get real about depression, anxiety and the various other ills that are often dismissed as simply “having a bad day” or “he’s just a little crazy” in our community?

There must have been some really bad mojo on the set of Diff’rent Strokes… all three of the kid stars from the show met their share of scandal and tragedy after the show went off the air.  We all know Gary Coleman has had a tough life.  Todd Bridges, fortunately, put his life back together.  Sadly, Dana Plato died of a drug overdose on May 8, 1999.  Now, her son Tyler Lambert has fallen victim to suicide.

Lambert, who was only 25, committed suicide nearly 11 years to the date of his mother’s death.  Lambert shot himself last week in Tulsa, OK.  Lambert was a cameraman and an aspiring songwriter who had his own drug and alcohol problem.  His grandmother thinks his addiction demons contributed to his death, coupled with the depression he would sometimes experience around Mother’s Day.

Just sad.  Really sad.

Hells bells… the Michael Jackson saga just gets stranger by the day.

The father of the boy who kick-started the molestation whispers surrounding the King of Pop took his own life yesterday.  65 year old Evan Chandler -whose son received a $20 million settlement from the 1993 abuse allegation- was found in his 16th floor luxury apartment in New Jersey with the gun still in his hand. Cops say he had a single gunshot wound to the head.

Chandler had been ill and was scheduled to see a doctor yesterday… the day he committed suicide.

He left no note.

Damn.
