Brew Bits: R. Kelly Thinks The IRS Is a Non-MF’n Factor

Taxes? What taxes? R. Kelly is not answering Uncle Sam’s calls…and hasn’t been for a good seven years. He already owes the tax man close to five million, now TMZ reports he’s got to add another $1.3 million to that tab. Kelly didn’t file from 2005-2010 and, apparently, he didn’t file for the year 2011 either, bringing his taxes owed total to $6,227,767.82. He’d better believe he can fly to the bank and handle that. His rep says Kelly is already communicating with the IRS to take care of the situation. Does that mean episodes 40-143 of “Trapped In The Closet” are on the way?

The taxman is still coming for Swizz Beatz. The Detroit News reports the IRS and the state of New York want more than $2.6 million in delinquent taxes from the producer. Just says after Swizzy and his new wife Alicia Keys had their son, Egypt, the state of New York hit the Swizzster with yet another tax lien…this week, the IRS dropped another lien on him:

  • The IRS filed a $283,562 lien against Swizz Beatz on Monday with the New York City Register.
  • The IRS filed an $842,645 lien against Dean and his ex-wife March 4, 2008, with the Somerset County (N.J.) Clerk. According to this lien, they owe income taxes from 2006.
  • The state of New York filed a $134,738 tax warrant against him and his ex-wife, R&B singer Mashonda on Oct. 23. The warrant is filed with the New York County Clerk.
  • The IRS filed a $652,727 lien against Swizz Beatz, real name Kasseem Dean, on June 3 with the Rockland County (N.Y.) Clerk. According to the lien, which you can see here, he owes income taxes from 2008.
  • The state of New York filed a $162,300 tax warrant against Dean and his ex-wife Feb. 4, 2009, with the New York County Clerk.
  • The IRS filed a $556,986 lien against Dean and his ex-wife on Aug. 18, 2008, in Rockland County. They owe 2007 income taxes, according to this public record.

The address on the newest lien is Dean’s mansion in Pomona, New York. Here’s a shot of that mansion…

Not too shabby, eh?

So far, no one in the Beatz house is talking about these tax troubles.

He’d better get to selling those Louboutins and making beats by the case.

Grace Jones needs someone to pull up to her bumper and drop some cash in the trunk.

The Detroit News reports the singer owes the IRS $63,000 in back taxes. The feds filed a lien against her in October with the New York City Register.

Hmm, maybe she should’ve done that duet with Gaga afterall.

Brew Bits: Wesley Snipes Is Going To The Pokey

Wesley Snipes could serve that 3 year prison sentence for tax evasion that he was trying to avoid afterall. Snipes lost his appeal Friday. His lawyers claimed the 3 year sentence for failing to file income tax returns for 1999 – 2001 was “unreasonable,” but a federal appeals court sat his $5 ass down and made change. No word yet on when he’ll have to go to prison.

Snipes reportedly made more than $38 million since 1999 but had not filed tax returns or paid any taxes on those earnings.

Gotcha!

Is 3 years too extreme though? What’s your call?

The IRS Is Watching You Hippity Hoppers

Posted by Witch Hazel | Posted in Lil Wayne, taxes, What's your call? | Posted on 16-07-2010

Word is the IRS is taking a hard look at your favorite rappers. The tax agency reportedly has a special unit that tracks hip hop artists and keeps tabs on their income. It’s called the “issue management team” and it was formed back in 2007 to get unclaimed money from entertainers and athletes. The IRS believes their taxes may be flying way under the rader, as in so low under the radar they aren’t paying taxes. This could explain why several rappers have been hit with IRS liens and whatnot in recent years (i.e.: Nas, Suge Knight and Method Man).

In the search for the rappers’ unreported dollars, the IRS also uncovers other suspicious activities like guns and drugs. You know… hoodrat stuff.

The latest rapper in the agency’s lens: Lil Wayne. The IRS says he owes more than $1.13 million in back taxes from 2004, 2005 and 2007 (guess 2006 was a rough year?).

Shady dealings…

So what’s your call? Is it fair to single out entertainers and rappers?
